This Week in Pictures
Once again, I've been a poor blogger. I'm trying to make up for it with pictures again. Here are my photos from this week along with my comments as I posted them.
These are my 3D glasses to watch the commercials in the Superbowl. I really don't see the 3D effect all that dramatically with them. I'm really nearsighted and wear contacts or glasses all the time. I wonder if that's why.

Monday night is knitting night in Columbus, GA. We gather at Panera. Usually there are 12 to 15 of us - sometimes less, sometimes more. We drink coffee or tea, eat soup and cookies, and talk a lot. There are other Monday regulars who drop by to chat and see what we're knitting. We always attract attention. ;-)

Cornbread, cooked in a cast iron skillet, removed from oven with Toto the Extremely Useful and Cute Potholder. I seriously need to clean that oven!

Leaving work today. Too many red lights.

There were some interesting ice patterns on my windshield this morning. You can see my purse and stuff already in the car, but I couldn't resist the ice.

Went to Sam's Club tonight with Seth. It was close to closing time when we got there and I kept trying to hurry him up. He didn't hurry until they started making the "Your Sam's Club is closing in ten minutes" announcements.

I babysat tonight for two little boys I've babysat a lot. The older one, 6-y-o, wanted a paper airplane. One instance when studying engineering pays off. It flew pretty well, I must say.

I found out this week that one of my coworkers from twenty years ago died on Tuesday. We weren't like really good friends or anything, but it just hit me hard. He's basically one of my contemporaries. And now he's gone. I also know his son, too - A really great young man who looks a lot like his dad. Last night I ran into another coworker from that job. We chatted about this death, and gossiped about other folks we know - some have been laid off from their jobs. Times are tough.

My week in pictures
This is my current travel knitting project. Garter Stitch Loop Through Scarf from 101 Designer One Skein Wonders. Yarn is Omega Sinfonia in Azul Rey.
We had a spectacular sunset on Monday. I was heading out for dinner and grabbed this shot.
Tuesday was the inauguration. I watched it while I was doing some graphic stuff at work. I took the picture off of my tv at home that night. See the station logo in the lower right corner? I designed that.
Wednesday morning it was very cold - for Columbus anyway. This is the roof of my car when I went out Wednesday morning.
Thursday night I had leftover pizza for dinner, warmed in my newly repaired toaster oven.
There were three deer in the road when I was driving home from babysitting last night. I snapped pictures changing the settings. This is all I got. Those floating lights are their eyes.
This is a picture I took of Seth's cat Boots today. He is incredibly sweet, smart, and handsome.

Whew!
So Saturday in 95 degree Georgia heat, my car died on the side of the road. I called AAA to tow it to the Honda place and called Seth to tow me home. I was so sad. I went home and moped. I didn't even think I'd feel like going to church Sunday, besides how would I get there. At 7:05 Sunday morning, I woke up and thought (maybe it was God saying this), stop feeling sorry for yourself and go get in the shower. When I got out of the shower, I called Arnold and Terrie, Catherine's parents, to see if I could get a ride. They always tell me I'm part of the family, and Arnold's my deacon, too. So I had a ride to church and home. Sunday evening I called Vince, my boss, for a ride to work on Monday. One of the girls noticed my car wasn't there and asked me where it was. I told her the story. She asked me how I got to work and I told her Vince brought me. She said, "That's why he was here so early!" He's usually late. So the culprit was the crank shaft sensor. Whatever that is. Apparently it's something that makes your car go, because mine wouldn't go. It would crank and when I pushed the accelerator the tachometer would go up really shaky. Then when I took my foot off the gas, it came down, the car stalled out, and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas Tree. It's all better now. $235 later. I got it back Monday after work. 48 hours without a car. It could have been worse.
On the positive side, while I was stuck at work for lunch on Monday, I was sitting in the break room knitting on my sock while my Lean Cuisine cooked, in walked our fairly new receptionist. It turns out she is also a knitter. Yea! I invited her to join us at Panera some Monday night.
I babysat the boys on Tuesday night. The three-year-old pooped in the potty for me. This was a huge deal. It was very exciting! Crazy, I know.
So, I have been seriously broke. I mean seriously. As in - the car insurance payment comes out of my checking account tomorrow and I didn't have enough money to cover it. This morning I scored a freelance video gig for someone who paid me $100 cash tonight to do the video for him. I told him he was an answered prayer. Honestly. I didn't know what I was going to do. Jehovah Jireh, The Lord Provides. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

Thanksgiving 2006
My time in the jury box this week brought this story to mind. I thought I'd share it here.
It was the day before Thanksgiving, November 22, 2006. I had an appointment in Atlanta that day, so I had to take the day off of work. Convenient. After my appointment, I drove on to South Carolina and Daddy's house. Half a mile from my exit, an 18-wheeler hooked my left rear fender (see the first picture). It pulled my car into the truck crushing the rear door (see the second picture). The car then spun as I hit the brakes and the truck continued to pull the left rear of the car forward. I basically almost completed a 360 - I remember seeing the cars coming at me head-on - before heading into the median. When the car stopped in the median, my heart was beating a mile a minute, but I wasn't hurt at all. Despite the damage to the car, it was perfectly drivable. The State Trooper followed me to the exit to be sure. So, Daddy and I went to Cracker Barrel for Thanksgiving. I had a nice visit - recounting my story to family and friends. I came home the next week - Tuesday, I think. I was off work the whole week. That Wednesday night I went to supper at church. My friend, Laura - the mom of the boys I babysit for - asked what had happened to my car. I told her about the wreck. She told me that that morning she knew I was driving to South Carolina and had prayed for me. I hugged her and thanked her, telling her it could have been much worse without the prayer.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!
My dad is 81 today. He was supposed to get his Canyon Ridge vest (the one he was originally supposed to get for Christmas) today. But, alas, it's not ready yet. I feel bad. I felt bad telling him the other day that it wasn't ready and he was all "That's okay, Hon." Which really just made me feel worse. I've got to get that vest done!
Work has been draining lately. There's just so much to do. I like my job, I really do, but, man, they just expect so much of us. Yesterday my boss was off to go to a funeral out of town, and I had so much to do. I left about 7:10 last night. It was a long day. Oh, and Thursday, my boss got on a cleaning frenzy. He does this about once a year. I just follow him around and try to make sure he doesn't throw away anything we need. He went nuts with the 409. Between the dust and the 409, my sinuses haven't been the same since.
Tonight I'm babysitting for my boys, Jack and Grayson. Or as I call them Jack-a-roo and Gray-baby. They are 5 and 2 1/2 and lots of fun. The biggest battle is getting Jack to bed. Gray goes without a fight; Jack moves in slow mo once he starts upstairs. I wonder what movie we'll watch tonight. There's always dinner and a movie. It's like a date, only I get some knitting done after they go to sleep and I get paid at the end of the night. It'd be bad if I got paid after a date. Also illegal.
Okay, have a great weekend. I'll try to be a better blogger. Lacy has given me grief over my lack to blogging. I get online and get lost in email and ravelry. I'll be better.

New Computer!!!!
Y'all, I got a new computer. It's a Dell laptop. 2 GB of memory, 120 GB hard drive, DVD burner, and a wide screen. It's so nice. I'm sitting on the couch with my feet up on one of the many yarn totes and the computer in my lap. I'm wireless, baby!! I could be sitting in the bed doing this. To put this in perspective, let me tell you about my old computer - it was an eMachines desktop, 8 GB hard drive, and I bought it EIGHT YEARS AGO this month. Yes, I own a computer from the twentieth century. Today I upgraded from Windows 98 SE to Windows Vista Home Premium. Holy Cow! My PMF installed my wireless network and did a bang up job for me. I enjoy all the little flashing lights on the router.
I missed knitting tonight. I babysat for my boys, Jack and Gray, tonight and thought their folks might get home in time for me to go to knit for a little bit, but alas, they came in too late. That's okay, though. Next week we go to Panera. Yea!!

Cable Found

I found my USB cable and thus, you are able to see the lovely WIP (that's "work in progress" for you non-knitters) I told you about in my last post.
Today is Saturday and it's the first Saturday since I quit my part time job. I enjoyed the job and I'm definitely going to miss the people, but I just so needed my weekends back. I slept until 8am this morning. Unheard of in my world. It was so nice sitting on the couch in my pajamas eating grits and bacon and toast. I might miss my sausage bisquit and hashbrowns from McDonald's, but I had to eat those while driving. . . not on the couch in my pajamas. Ahhh. So here it is almost noon, and guess what! Still in my pajamas!
I will make my way to the shower shortly. I'm babysitting tonight for my litle friend Catherine. She's so much fun. I've already picked out some nail polish.
I also need to get my Sunday School lesson studied sometime today. Oh, the pressure.
